This research thesis is an investigation into use of ‘participation’& ‘collaboration’ within photographic documentary practice, set specifically within the context of the contribution to the final production of work. The final output is ‘the active site’ of social exchange between the spectator, participant and author. I will examine the causes of the recent manifold rise in this practice through an in-depth analysis of the work of two artists; Diana Markosian and Carolyn Drake. (Photo credit: Diana Markosian)
